About

Brandon Wilhoite

I build the models and frameworks that form the argument. I write about baseball, money, and the way systems work.

I've spent the better part of twenty years doing work that doesn't fit a single job title. I've been a writer, A luxury fashion GM, an analyst, a strategist, a compliance architect, a COO, a consultant, a data science mentor, and every kind of salesman you can imagine. The thread running through all of it is the same: I take complicated things and make them legible; whether that's an argument in prose, a model in code, or a regulatory framework in a document someone must live and/or work with.

At Crowdz I replaced a binary pay/default cut with a weighted days-beyond-term formula. That scoring ran in a Citi proof of concept on invoice finance and lifted predictiveness 80%+ versus the prior linear model. It was part of the work around $10M+ in associated investment. I have also designed dual FinCEN and FCA KYC/AML programs, and built the transaction-monitoring and rules engine at a Web3 infrastructure firm whose subsidiary tracked $15.5M+ in tokenized transactions.

I'm open to roles that use more than one of these skills at once. The ideal situation is somewhere that needs a person who can write the strategy document, build the model behind it, and explain both to a room of executives without losing anyone. That's what I do.

Remote US. Full-time, contract-to-hire, or a scoped consulting engagement. Analytics, financial crime, credit/fraud, compliance, and founder-level ops all fit.

If that is the work, the contact page is one click away.

My background spans data science, compliance, risk, operations, and Web3 because the most interesting problems don't stay in one lane. I've held Director of Data Services, CCO, COO, and Head of Data titles, often running more than one of those at once when the job was to stand up a function that did not exist yet. Those were scoped builds, often concurrent.

My analytical work has covered payment-risk scoring, market pricing engines, supply chain tokenization, sports simulation, and baseball statistics. My writing has covered baseball analytics, business and labor economics, media criticism, and long-form essays. I solve problems, whatever and wherever they may be, and I make systems and processes efficient and profitable.

On the technical side I have built scoring models in Python, automated CRM in Google Apps Script, and designed AML/KYC architecture for fintech platforms under dual US-UK oversight and for GCC-region asset funds. At Tangible that was a dual FinCEN and FCA program. At EnkiFi, semi-concurrent with Tangible, it was the TM and rules engine, banking and PSP relationships, and the FortyFi subsidiary POC tracking $15.5M+ in tokenized regulated transactions. FortyFi was discontinued in 2024. The IP stayed with EnkiFi.

USPTO publication US-20220076330-A1 lists Kevin Hopkins as inventor. I built the non-linear weighted-DBT scoring that ran in the Crowdz Citi work. An amended filing to add me as co-inventor was planned. Crowdz closed before it went in. The application later went abandoned.

I also design the teaching version of this work. I took one analyst through a 13-week curriculum I wrote, taught, and assessed, from analyst to data scientist.

What I do well is take a messy problem, a new product that needs a risk model, a protocol that needs compliance infrastructure, a team that needs a data strategy, and build the frameworks and processes that make it executable.

I write about baseball, business, and how systems operate. These processes occupy the same mindset as the modeling: find the mechanism, make it understandable. I've watched enough baseball to have opinions worth reading, and enough of everything else to have a foundation to apply knowledge and experience across industries and implementations, specializing in out-of-the-box, unique solutions that center brand value, client experience, and securing profitability. The projects and the writing are on this site.
